We had clear instructions from Marc, and he also sent over some good nearby breakfast suggestions. There’s no staffed reception, and breakfast isn’t included. The communal lounge has a microwave and kitchen, and the rooms we could choose from were large, comfortable, and nicely decorated. Our shower room was impressive. Alphabed is central enough that we walked everywhere, so we didn’t end up using the free bikes. We plan to stay again.

Room 2 was huge, with lots of space, a big bathroom, and tidy, attractive decor. There’s a table with two chairs, plus a little spot to make coffee or tea. The city centre is really close, and the area itself is quiet. Downstairs there’s a kitchen where you can eat food you’ve bought, or take it back to your room. They also provide bikes for guests, a really nice gesture.

My wife and I found this a great fit. The room was clean and cosy, and the location was just right. I’d recommend staying here in Ghent.

We spent six nights here in early October 2020, when COVID meant the room rate was affordable. A large bathroom and Nespresso machine gave us the comforts we wanted while our house was being renovated. I asked the owner directly on WhatsApp, but never got information about room cleaning or towel changes.

The one thing that worked for us was being within walking distance of the city centre. Otherwise, this was a disappointing anniversary stay. The drains were blocked and I ended up mopping the floor, parking was a major hassle, either €25 or a 30-minute walk, and the bed was too short for Dutch people. We didn’t see the host at all, and there was no breakfast, which seems odd for a B&B. I chose it after reading the reviews, but it felt like a different hotel. Next time I’ll book an Airbnb for a quarter of the price.
