Hotel Campanile Gent

There's plenty of parking and good access to the road network, but the motel is very dated and could use a modern rebuild. The rooms have net curtains, single-glazed windows, one electric wall heater, and only one usable socket. You can hear the motorway in the distance, and there's no bathroom heating. While working on my laptop, I had to unplug the TV to use the kettle. Work booked me here because it had a restaurant, but it was closed for the Armistice Day bank holiday. I wish the hotel had let my workplace know when they booked.

One of my worst nights. The room smelled dusty and everything looked dirty. I left after one night and cancelled the second. Staff said they'd refund me, but I had to wait a week because the manager was on holiday. After three weeks, I've been told they can't do it. I can't recommend this horrible hotel. Please be careful, because you might get scammed.

I'd had no bites before staying here, and now I'm covered in big welts. I wore long-sleeved clothes and bug spray when going out, and only visited the city, so the bed was the only place where I wasn't covered up and could have been exposed. Disinfect all the rooms. Nobody should book here. I've stayed at Campanile before and know not to expect much, but this place was the worst. There doesn't seem to be an option to reply to the owner. It's strange that no hotel ever admits to bedbugs, probably because it would be bad for business. From the reviews, this doesn't sound like a new problem, so keep up the lousy standards, I guess.

My husband and I spent two nights here. The hotel is near Ghent's city centre, and our room was clean and fine for two people. We didn't have bedbugs or anything like that. The odd part was the towel situation. A note in the bathroom said there should be five towels, and that one missing at checkout would cost 7.50 euro. When we arrived, before we'd even unpacked, a woman, maybe a cleaner, knocked and came in to leave four towels: one in the bathroom and three on the bed. After going into town, I read the note and counted them. We were one short, so we went to reception. The man gave us another towel and said the note meant nothing. If it means nothing, why have it there? I also wondered why she brought four instead of five. I don't know whether the hotel was trying to set guests up to pay extra, but the whole thing felt off.
