Hotel Mille Colonnes

Breakfast downstairs had fresh juice, fruit, bread and cheeses alongside the continental choices. This is a small hotel just across from the train station, with friendly staff, clean rooms and lovely bathrooms.

I told the hotel I’d be arriving late after booking a room, but when I got there the door was locked and there was no sign anyone was expecting me. I had to find another hotel whose staff could leave the entrance open to welcome guests at any hour. I was only sent the door code the next day, after checkout time. I asked Expedia for a refund, but the hotel denied it and, in my view, lied about not having received my messages. This place doesn’t seem to understand customer service. A cheap, podunk hotel must need to hang on to every dollar of a $70 room rate to stay afloat. It also advertises “parking included” but describes it as parking nearby, at places the hotel doesn’t own or operate. That’s not what included parking means. The management and customer service need a serious look.

Our room’s window looked out onto a wall, and the lack of reception made things awkward. You enter through a restaurant, more like a bed and breakfast, and no staff are around while it’s closed. On our last day, we came back from a walk at 10:45 to get our bags and check out, but our key had already been disabled. We had to ask staff to turn it back on so we could get into the room. The staff were nice, and the room, furniture and bathroom were clean and in very good condition. Breakfast was included and good, the location was fine, and checkout was late, at 11.

The setup is like an old-fashioned tavern, with the restaurant below and rooms upstairs. For a two-star place, Mille Colonnes exceeded what I expected. The room was clean, and the bed comfortable enough. Breakfast was tasty, with hot and cold choices like salads, meat and cheese, eggs, sausages, fruit, croissants and more. It’s right across from the station, handy for train travel, and the surroundings are quiet and clean. They’ll also keep your bags after checkout. We had to sort out the main cold water stopcock ourselves when it hadn’t been turned on, but we managed 😅. There’s no A/C, though it wasn’t an issue with daytime temperatures of 22-24.
