Hotel The Lodge Heverlee

The castle next door was the only nice part, and I regret staying here. For over 200€ for one night, I expected some amenities. There was just one bedside light, and its cable was fraying. The ottoman was torn and coming apart. The antique furniture was nice, but everything else looked second hand from the dump. The hallway carpet was nasty, and it seemed they hadn’t put money into the furnishings since the 80s. They gave me attitude when I asked for water, and charging over 7€ for a small bottle of sparkling water felt like a rip-off. This was the cheapest most expensive stay I’ve ever had. Wish I’d taken pictures to warn people.

The room was spacious and clean, and breakfast and dinner had lots of options, especially tasty, fresh food. Getting to the city center takes a 40-minute walk. At night, though, I didn’t feel safe because the room was in an open area anyone from the street could walk up to. The fan ran all night and couldn’t be switched off. Also, you couldn’t turn off a single light without removing your card, and with the card out, you couldn’t turn on your phone, for example.

The room was clean and fine for one night, though it could have had more character like the restaurant. There was a strange smell in my room, not stinky but not pleasant. The restaurant was better than the room: dinner was very tasty, and breakfast products were fresh and good quality. Recommended.

We had a very good impression of the hotel and would probably stay again. The suite was roomy and nice, in a pleasant neighbourhood, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a little below the standard of the rooms, though that didn’t overwhelm me. Getting there can be tricky: the access road is narrow, and on a warm day lots of people are on foot visiting the hotel’s brasserie. Parking is limited but free, with paid parking also available in the small underground lot. The bathroom was nice, though I would have liked a full shower.
