The wedding during our three-day stay was the big problem. Celebrations went on until dawn, inside and outside, so getting sleep was out of the question. We picked Grand Hotel & SPA Primoretz because the reviews were consistently good, and much of the hotel did live up to them. It sits beside the beach and Sea Garden, with the town centre an easy walk away. The spa has a roomy indoor pool, a warmer hydrotherapy pool, an aromatic sauna and treatments that felt professionally done. Our room was clean and spacious, with a balcony and a nice sea view. Breakfast had plenty of variety, too. The classical décor felt a little dated to us. In terms of interiors, it seemed closer to a solid Western European four-star hotel than a particularly contemporary one.

The hotel has a lot of character, and even in the off-season there was good service, staff around when needed, and a pianist in the lobby. Its grand, old-fashioned style is part of the appeal, with marble floors, wood panels, big spaces and vintage artwork. It was built in 1959 for Soviet elites, and that history still shows. Even standard rooms are around 50 m², which is a lot of space by today's standards. The location works well for getting around on foot: the beach and Burgas's large seaside park are close, and the city centre is reachable too. Balconies look either out to sea or over the city. The spa is huge, with a pool, sauna, steam bath, jacuzzi and other wellness facilities. Breakfast and the restaurant were good, with continental choices and Bulgarian specialties made from high-quality ingredients. A few things feel dated technically. The magnetic key cards demagnetize easily, and the TVs are small with poor resolution. The building is generally well maintained, though smoking is allowed in some indoor public areas, which could bother non-smokers. Staff wear traditional uniforms that suit the atmosphere. This is a memorable example of Soviet-era luxury rather than modern luxury. If the price is reasonable, it's a great place to stay in Burgas.

The spa was the best part for us. We were there for 4 nights and went every day, and I'd recommend it highly. Staff were helpful and accommodating, and breakfast had a generous selection. Our room was really spacious, and having a big balcony was lovely. A kettle would have been the one thing I'd add.

This was my second stay. The breakfast was hearty, and there are cozy spots to relax as well as spa facilities. Everything was clean and quiet, and the service and people were great.

The outdoor pool temperature was just right for cooling off after the sun, and breakfast had a decent, tasty selection. I also appreciated having both a bathtub with a lowered shower and a separate shower cabin. Those were the bright spots in a disappointing stay, and I was surprised to see the hotel's high rating and positive feedback. The beach isn't right outside: it's a 200-300 meter walk through public municipal land, not hotel property. Inside and outside the building, there's a cigarette smell. The motion sensor hallway lights were very dim and unreliable, leaving me walking into darkness. There were no ceiling lights in the room, just daylight or a bedside lamp. Some sockets were blocked by the bed shelf, and the accessible bedside ones were being used for a lamp. My confirmed "very large single bed" was actually two small beds pushed together without a single mattress over them. I kept sinking into the gap at night and, worried about ending up in the middle, couldn't relax. It badly affected my sleep on vacation. I can't imagine a couple sleeping comfortably on that "Very large single bed" either. My question about it through the official booking channel was ignored. The pillows were extremely light and thin, and the mattress felt like a very cheap one and wasn't comfortable. Despite the marble and gold-colored interior, the building is very aged. Wi-Fi disconnected often enough to make online gaming impossible. I'm 188cm tall, and the toilet seat was so high I could only touch the floor with my toes. The bathroom smelled fresh one day, then strongly of sewage the next. The outdoor pool was often crowded with children shouting, splashing and crying. Some parents acted as if they had more right to the space than other guests, and staff didn't actively enforce rules like no jumping. Birds flew over the pool, drank from it and often left droppings. These weren't cleaned overnight, so the sunbeds were often dirty in the morning. There was no music or visible poolside service for drinks or meals. There was just one safety handle for getting into the pool, which might not be enough for guests with limited mobility. After housekeeping had been in, I had the feeling they had only made the bed and hadn't changed the sheets and bedding, because everything was wrinkled. I can't be sure.
