Vulture Centre Eastern Rhodopes

The cliffs and river around this conservation centre and guest house are stunning, and there are birds everywhere. The staff quickly brought out a tripod and scope to help us spot them, and shared a map of local birding hotspots. Every spot we visited impressed us. It’s a great base for seeing Egyptian Vultures, Black Storks, Griffon Vultures, and many other species in the area. The place was super clean and clearly cared for, and we were welcomed like old friends. It’s about an hour’s drive from a major highway, but well worth the trip for nature lovers. You can also get craft beer and food at the centre before heading back out to look for another lifer. If you have the time, it’s a truly special place ♥️.

You can get local guidance and Google Maps viewing points, and many of them are reachable by car. It’s a reliable place to see vultures, black storks, and other birds. For accommodation, guided tours, and bird hide slots, you apparently need to book ahead. We missed out on those options.

The restaurant food was delicious, and it’s a nice spot to rest after a good walk. The scenery is beautiful, with many kinds of birds easy to spot. We also listened to a very interesting presentation about the life of the Vulture at the museum, which was especially engaging for people who love birds.
