The food was fantastic!

Good place.

We weren't hungry, and the sea was only a brisk 3-5 minute walk away. But the hotel felt run down, and the food was a gamble. Sometimes it was passable, sometimes not. There were no fruit or sweets, and once the pizza tasted of diesel fuel. The soda machine broke, so we relied on bottled water for days. When that ran out, we refilled bottles from the tap, but the water tasted strongly of chlorine. They seemed to have coffee, but wouldn't give it out. The carbonated drinks, at least, were good quality. Some meat came in large pieces, but I wouldn't rush to take any. It was either unpleasant or seemed extremely old. Rooms on the 1st-2nd floors were more or less OK, while those on the 3rd-4th floors were not. The hotel had rented rooms where people cooked on balconies with electric stoves, a bit like a mini Bombay. The manager said the elevator would be fixed when we checked in, but that didn't happen. After our first night, they moved us from the 4th to the 2nd floor. Staff spoke only Bulgarian, except for the manager, who spoke Russian. We love Bulgaria for its roses and warm summer sea.
