B1 City Hotel

We stayed one night with the kids after our flight, and it worked out great. The hotel is very close to the airport and a shopping mall, and the city center is not far by taxi. Our room was clean and spacious, and breakfast was excellent.

We paid €130 for a small room, while Booking.com showed a price of just €75. Booking through Booking.com is definitely much cheaper. We stayed one night, October 25-26, and the receptionist was unfriendly and disrespectful. She also told us there would be no breakfast the next morning.

The shower had excellent pressure and temperature, and the room had USB charging ports, a safe, several towels, and free slippers. It was also convenient for business, with work areas nearby and only a 10-minute drive from the airport. But I wouldn’t stay at B1 Hotel again. I couldn’t sleep comfortably: the room was too warm, the AC didn’t work, and reception told me to open a window despite the humidity outside. With it open, people shouting on a megaphone kept me awake. With it closed, noise from the hall and conversations next door came through an adjoining door clearly. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable, and it was two single beds pushed together instead of one large bed. There were other problems too. The bedside lights flickered, the shower kept dripping, and the door had no lock, which felt like a security concern. Basic amenities were missing, and the minibar was overpriced and barely stocked. The decor was nice, with floor-to-ceiling windows, blackout curtains, and a modern TV with streaming services, but those positives didn’t make up for the lack of comfort and poor sleep. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a restful, well-equipped hotel in Sofia.

The hotel looks neat and fancy, and the location is good, but the service and amenities were awful. I was there for a few days on business in April, when the room stayed around 27°C day and night. I couldn’t control the AC using the room settings. I didn’t sleep or rest during my stay. I called reception repeatedly, politely asking for help and even asking if they had a portable fan because the heat was making me feel dizzy. They hung up on me. When I raised the issue face to face, they ignored me. Customer service was horrendous, and staff seemed to have very limited English. Breakfast was the worst I’ve ever seen, despite having traveled a lot. It wasn’t worth €15: the choices were extremely limited, nobody was there to serve or help, there was no fresh fruit, and the food on display looked days old and lifeless. There was just a random coffee machine with bad coffee. The management was terrible, and the amenities and service were so poor that the place should be shut down. Staff should be happy in their jobs and trained to treat guests properly. I had a much better experience at Novotel, where I’ve stayed before without issues. Shame on you, B1city Hotel, for making such a bad impression of your whole nation.
