Hostel 10 Coins

The people staying there were friendly once you got to know them. My room had just four beds and enough space, and my curtained bed felt private and was really comfortable. There were good pillows and mattresses, with power sockets right beside the beds. I also liked the kitchen and the big bathrooms. It was a great, quiet stay.

I enjoyed staying at this smaller, laid-back hostel. The staff and kitchen were great, and the WiFi worked well. The metro gets you to the center in just seven minutes. I’ll definitely come back when I visit Sofia again.

The kitchen was nice, and the place was fairly clean and peaceful. The host was so kind, it felt a bit like home, and the neighborhood was quiet too. It’s a few minutes’ walk to the metro, so getting around is easy, though the hostel isn’t close to the center. I had two nights next to someone who snored, which was frustrating, but I guess that’s not the hostel’s fault. Towels cost 10 leva. Thanks for being so kind!

I was charged 5 Lev per day for my bicycle when I came back within the agreed time and had booked another night. Nobody had mentioned this fee at check-in or during my stay, even though the volunteer staff discussed the bike with me several times. I’d left it in the courtyard against a wall as they recommended, then it was moved beside a volunteer’s bike in an outdoor corridor. I’d asked if I could leave it for less than two days after checkout while I visited somewhere else, and they said “absolutely.” I’d already paid everything up front in cash for my four-day booking, including the 10 lev towel deposit and 5 lev key fob deposit. If the bike charge was genuine, I don’t understand why they didn’t collect it with the other fees at check-in. After I asked them to explain to the owner that I hadn’t been told about it, I waited 15 minutes and was told “the owner never responded.” I can’t tell whether the owner has become greedy or desperate because the place is often empty, or the volunteers were trying to deceive me and pocket the money. The second seems possible. There were also smelly sheets, and I’d planned to leave a good review anyway until they tried to get more money from me. In my experience as an extensive traveller, the place doesn’t feel trustworthy. The staff seemed openly desperate, and the owner may be struggling to pay the bills. Places like this are full of broke, desperate volunteers living in tiny spaces for long periods. Bad vibes. I wouldn’t recommend it.
