Spa Hotel Dragalevtsi

The room was roomy, clean, and comfortable, with a little balcony overlooking Mount Vitosha. It was quiet and relaxing, and the hotel has a nice pool, though it was too cold for us to use. Parking and reception open 24/7 were handy, too. We stayed one night, around 20 minutes from Sofia Airport. It’s family-friendly and good value for a short airport-area stay. The dinner food itself was decent, but the service was completely unacceptable. We were told the whole menu was available, then ten minutes after ordering hummus, beef tartare, beef cheeks, and tagliatelle with Black Angus, we were told the tagliatelle was unavailable. We chose another portion of beef cheeks instead. When dinner arrived, it was beef tongue. The waiter just said, “Sorry, this is what we have,” with no warning, proper apology, or offered solution. We were in a 3-bedroom apartment with two 1-year-old children. The restaurant had no high chairs, so we had to improvise and meals were uncomfortable. Breakfast was very basic, and they wouldn’t let us bring food to the pool area, which was frustrating given the setting and limited choices. The advertised spa and gym were closed, and nobody told us beforehand. The problems started at check-in. The air conditioning in the apartment was off and the rooms were sauna-hot. In one room it wouldn’t work at all because the remote was missing or faulty. We called reception, waited over 30 minutes without a solution, then went down ourselves and were told they couldn’t help. After we insisted, the receptionist brought a remote from another room, set it to 22°C, and tried to take it back, saying it belonged to another unit. We explained we needed to adjust it ourselves, and after more back-and-forth he agreed to leave it. Staff seemed poorly trained and lacked basic hospitality skills, and they don’t speak English. It was a badly managed stay with serious gaps in service, communication, and professionalism. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially to families or anyone hoping for a relaxing, respectful environment.

We stayed one night, and it was good enough. The rooms are spacious, with a nice view over the mountain, and the place has a lot of potential. The morning desk person when we checked out was the exception, though. Other staff could use hospitality training, especially the breakfast supervisor, who treated us like we were in a Soviet gulag. It’s a shame they weren’t warmer and more welcoming. With the right management and training, this place could be amazing.

The rooms are okay, but there’s a faint, old smoke smell. The pool water is ice cold. Food and drinks are awful for the prices, which feel like ruthless overcharging and don’t match the quality.
