Hotel Adria

The room wasn’t very clean, with marks all over, and the single rooms seem to need renovation. The blond young lady was perfect, though. The blond old lady and the brunette with tunningn mouth were horrible receptionists.

The room was fine: clean, comfortable, and about what you’d expect. The person at reception when I arrived was lovely. There’s only a small breakfast room to sit in, though, and it serves as the social area in the centre evening. The place left me feeling a bit down, like the parts of the city I saw during my short stay. I wanted to stay in the room and catch the next bus out. The bus station is nearby, and the train station may be too; the tube is a 10-minute walk away. There wasn’t anything to do within 10 minutes on foot. I’d stay again for the price, but not for the location or amenities.

We booked Adria Hotel through Booking.com under the Partner Offer, which I hadn’t realized at the time, and the reservation was non-refundable. When my friend and I arrived, the front desk girl gave us attitude straight away. She said they had no reservation for us and guessed we must be booked at the hotel next door, Aris Hotel, even though our confirmation clearly said Adria Hotel. She blamed Booking.com and made no attempt to call or check what had happened. She sent us over to Aris Hotel, which has a one-star-lower rating. We’d chosen Adria partly because it advertised a gym and spa with a sauna. At Aris, they confirmed they had our booking, but said they had no gym or spa. We’d have to go elsewhere and pay extra to use those facilities. I had to phone Booking.com myself, though the front desk should have helped instead of leaving it to a paying guest. After lots of back and forth, and with the woman at Aris continuing to try to persuade us to stay, we walked away and found somewhere else. The whole thing was terrible. I really disliked the attitude at Adria Hotel, and it felt like they were trying to scam us. Do NOT book here.

A sad place in Sofia, though it is near the bus station. Breakfast is a no-go, not worth it even if it’s free. The receptionist, a blond woman, was very unhelpful and bad. She scammed us, then suddenly couldn’t speak English when money came up. The hotel is okay, but not worth the price. Aris Hotel, 20 metres farther away, is 50% cheaper and the same quality, with better service for your money.
