The hotel has a dated look, though I found it charming, and I’d book again. Everything was very clean, from the whole building to the comfortable, tidy rooms, which work for either a short visit or a longer stay. The views are lovely, especially from the higher floors. There’s a small cafe in the lobby, and the concierge exchanges currency at reasonable rates. The bathrooms were comfortable, although the bathtub is unusually tall. Even at over 6 feet, I felt a little disoriented getting in and out. The room temperature controls are odd because they only cool, but they’re easy enough to work out.

It wasn't a terrible stay, but I wouldn't call it pleasant either, and to me this feels like a 3-star hotel. The view was amazing, the room was warm and there was always hot water. On the downside, the beds were uncomfortable, the food wasn't good, and they cleaned our room just once during the whole stay without replacing the towels or toilet paper. One of the room cards also didn't work.

We had a room on the eleventh floor, and it was clean, warm when we arrived, and a good size for us and our luggage. The mattress, though, was lumpy and uncomfortable. The reception, lobby, and dining hall are all spacious. This is the biggest and tallest hotel in Bulgaria, but the male receptionists weren't very friendly.

The hotel itself isn't bad, though the service has a Moskva kind of feel to it. Perhaps changing the name from that of a malevolent city and its sunken flagship to something pleasant would cheer up the staff and make the place feel more Bulgarian. Some new, comfortable mattresses and a bit of updating would help too. Bulgaria is no longer isolated by an occupier, and it's European and growing.

One day, room service apparently picked up a stuffed animal that was still on the bed and left it out in the hallway. There are other problems too: the rooms are small, the windows don't shut tightly, and there's no kettle. A room for two has space for only one person at the desk.
