Scotty's Boutique Hotel

There was no one at the front desk the whole time, so everything had to go through WhatsApp. The owner refused my requests, including when I asked for fresh towels. I’d booked on Agoda, where the listing said there was a 24 hour front desk and luggage storage. Before check-in I asked if I could drop off my bags, and he just said “no” and ignored my other messages. When I contacted Agoda to cancel, he refused and even claimed he didn’t work with Agoda. I had to carry my suitcase around the city until check-in. The room was spacious, but the furniture was very old and dirty, and it was on the 3rd floor with no elevator. I didn’t expect 5-star service for the price, but there are much better options in Sofia. If he had let me cancel, I wouldn’t have stayed. The false listing and his attitude made everything worse.

The host was so welcoming, and the location was really good. The rooms were large and very clean, with a very comfortable bed and an equally spacious bathroom. It wasn’t exactly luxurious, but the price was insanely good. I think this was the most pleasant interaction I’ve had with a hotel.

The staff were kind, and most of the popular sights were close by. The room wasn’t great, though. The mattresses didn’t look very clean, and the beds were almost level with the floor. The bathroom was ridiculous: the sink wouldn’t work unless you turned on the shower head, so washing my hands meant getting my shoes and pants wet.

We arrived in Sofia really late and check-in went smoothly, but the room was old and very dirty, with yellow grime and dust everywhere. That didn’t matter much since we only stayed a couple of hours. When we checked out at 11, there was NOBODY at reception. I messaged to ask if we could leave our bags and got NO ANSWER, so I kept the keys to come back for them later. In the evening we returned to see if anyone was there, but again NOBODY. I needed the toilet and couldn’t find one elsewhere in the building, and with no one around I used the room bathroom as cleanly as I could. A woman showed up and got angry that I’d used it after checkout. I understand she had to clean it again, though she could have been more understanding. I was careful, and the room was already dirty anyway, so it needed cleaning regardless. She kicked us out without any hospitality. I travel a lot and have never met a receptionist this rude. They need SOMEONE at reception and to learn some manners. The weather is nice, so enjoy the city.
