Hotel Vega Sofia

Breakfast was good, and the hotel is conveniently close to the airport. The rooms are okay at first glance, though they seem to have more style than substance. Looking more closely, I noticed a few things that need repair, but nothing that would make me pick another hotel. I didn't get to try the sauna or gym.

The view was lovely, and the room was spacious and very clean, with complimentary tea and coffee. We picked Vega because it’s close to several consulates, which was handy for our trip. Breakfast was simple but really good, and I enjoyed every bite. All in all, a nice, straightforward hotel.

There’s a metro station about a 10-minute walk away, so the location works pretty well. The rooms are modern, pleasant and roomy, and there always seems to be someone at reception. Breakfast was the usual international spread. I heard the gym costs extra to use, which seemed excessive. The main problem came when we left: we asked reception to arrange a taxi and a van, but a small car showed up instead. The driver had no ID, couldn’t take a card, and had no cash to give change. Then we were charged 30 euro for a trip that had cost less than 20l on earlier visits. It felt like a scam. Apart from that, I can’t really complain.

I had a hard time sleeping because the hotel is beside a busy intersection and the windows don’t block the noise. The shower also failed to drain properly. I asked for it to be fixed, but nobody did anything. Wi-Fi in the room only worked near the door, and there was no bottled water. Breakfast was basic. There wasn’t an iron in the room either, though after I asked, one arrived the next morning. For what you pay, this felt like a mediocre 2-3* hotel charging 4* prices.
