Regina Hotel

The location is the one thing I can’t fault. The hotel itself was shocking: our first room was so bad we had to move, and rooms were not cleaned. Items were stolen by cleaners. The staff were rude, and the place felt very dark and creepy. The online photos need updating because it didn’t look like them at all. We paid for all inclusive but ate out every day and bought our own drinks. Food was disgusting, and the drink options were limited to flat Pepsi, lemonade or squash. The beer was poor too. The pool bar only opened briefly and still had hardly anything available. I’d avoid this hotel.

It’s a handy spot, close to the beach and decent restaurants, and the rooms are spacious. The reception staff were friendly and spoke some English. Around the large pool there were plenty of sunbeds, plus a maintained garden with shaded seating. The pizza and ice cream from the food bar were good. The cleaning was poor. Dust had built up, mirrors were dirty, and there was visible mould in the bathroom. I think our room was cleaned only once; I had to use Google Translate to ask for more toilet paper because the cleaner didn’t understand English. The dining room covers were filthy and needed a hot wash. We paid for all inclusive, but the food choices were poor, so we ate out every evening. There’s a fun fair behind the hotel, and it can be noisy at night. It didn’t bother us, though it could be a problem for older guests or families with babies and toddlers.

The location was the only good part of this stay. We felt unwelcome throughout, and both the room and the rest of the hotel were unclean. We got fresh towels just once, and the sheets were never changed. Even though we were all inclusive, we ate at the restaurant no more than three times. The food was cold and awful, even when we arrived early. Staff were very unfriendly. More than once, we were told the bar had closed and drinks were no longer being served, then saw the same barman serving non-English guests an hour later. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

The beach and the strip are close by, with bars, shops and restaurants. That was the only positive for us. The hotel is run down and needs renovating. Staff were rude and seemed prejudiced against English people. They would serve us when they felt like it, after taking time to light and finish a cigarette. We couldn’t stomach the all-inclusive food, so for the whole stay we spent a fortune on breakfast, lunch and dinner in local restaurants. The drinks were awful too. Soft drinks were usually unavailable, and when they were there they didn’t taste like any soft drink I know. The lobby was the only place with spirits, and they tasted chemical. Beer was just about drinkable, though not good. There was no water, and coffee was rarely served; when it was, it came in tiny plastic cups. Our rooms were in bad shape. The toilet wouldn’t flush, the shower was broken, plaster was coming off around the door frame, and the sliding toilet door was pulling out of the wall. Lights were very dim or not working, so we replaced two bulbs ourselves just to have light at night. My brother in law’s bed had dried vomit and faeces on it when we arrived, and it was never changed. There was cigarette ash in the only cup in our room. Both air conditioners leaked, and the water flooded my balcony. Cleaning was done with one dirty mop bucket, and there were no clean towels. The restaurant bar was shut every lunchtime, the hot drink machine was broken, and the pool bar was mostly unmanned and out of stock. There was none of the advertised food. The pool is large but dirty. There was broken glass in the water, and staff didn’t care. A broken light was still attached to wires and floating in the pool. The safety bar on the small pool wasn’t attached. The pool wasn’t cleaned or tested, and there were no lifeguards. There’s no lift, so getting to an upper floor would be difficult with a pram or mobility problems. We did our best to enjoy the holiday, but had to spend much more than planned buying food and drinks from local shops. At least the beach is nearby, so you can go there instead of using the dirty pool and risking a cut from the glass. This was the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed in, with the worst food and drinks and shocking service. I’ve never before written a review where I can honestly say: don’t stay here or give them your money. Book somewhere else in the resort.
