Staying in St. George’s meant we were quite far from many Bermuda attractions, so having a scooter made getting around much easier. Scootering was convenient and affordable compared with buses or taxis. I rented a large scooter for 5 days, with comprehensive insurance, for about $400, and rode ~150-200 km. It handled our combined weight of ~315 lbs around the island reasonably well, though the hills were a challenge as expected. Gas mileage was good and it worked well overall, with a couple of hiccups: sometimes it took several tries to start, and on the second day the battery and oil lights came on. The rental staff said it was all clear, and nothing came of it. Elbow Beach charged more than competitors, but reviews and people I spoke to suggested Elbow Beach Cycles has better bikes and customer service, so it’s up to you whether that’s worth the extra price. Good experience, though not flawless. I’d recommend it to travelers.

The railway trail on Bermuda is fabulous, with views among the most stunning we’ve experienced, except when we did it 9 years before. Signing up was easy, and the instructions and service had a laid-back, great feel. The E Bikes were heavy, but their range easily covered our extensive 2 days of hire. Three of the four bikes had some odd issues with gear changes or surge control, though mine was fine. Returning them was simple: they gave the bikes a quick look and said we were all set.

The highlight of my trip was Jobson’s Cove, with its tucked-away setting and gorgeous turquoise water. I’d planned to visit Horseshoe Bay, but Harrison at Elbow Beach Cycles suggested the cove, and I’m glad he did. He was a real gentleman, made renting a scooter easy and stress-free, and took time to ensure I felt safe and confident on the road. He also shared great local beach recommendations. Elbow Beach Cycles is hands-down the best scooter rental company in Bermuda. If Harrison helps you, you’re in for a great experience. Highly recommend!

The reservation process was easy, and I had a great experience with the staff, but the scooter itself felt downright dangerous. It had 14,000 kilometers on it, smoked more blue exhaust than an old diesel truck, and its suspension bottomed out like a worn sofa. The shocks clearly needed replacing. It had almost no power, either. On Bermuda’s many hills it slowed to a turtle’s pace, and locals tailgated so closely I worried I might die on vacation. The fuel gauge was unreliable and left me out of gas one evening. Luckily I was about 500 yards from an Esso fuel station and could push it there. Better maintenance and replacing the oldest scooters with some of the profits would help. Next time I’ll try a competitor to see if this is just normal for rentals on a small island. Good effort Elbow Cyckrs, but there’s work to do.

We rented a scooter from EB Cycles for our recent cruise to Bermuda, but bad weather made us worry about getting hurt, so we decided not to go ahead. When I contacted the company about a possible refund, they kindly offered 50%, which I really appreciated. After that experience, we’d happily book through Elbow Beach again. Thank you, Enrico!
