We checked in on January 29, 2026, during the nationwide water disruption that had started that day. The hotel didn't tell us about it then. We only found out on the 30th, when we went to use the toilet and were told the interruption would continue until further notice. We couldn't shower in our room or even use the toilet, which left me speechless. They gave us bottled water, but it wasn't enough to shower or flush the toilet, and they offered no other option. The hotel didn't apologize, either. We asked for a refund and were turned down because they said they'd supplied water, 3L a day. I'm sure that was meant to cover showering, peeing, and other basic sanitation needs. A hotel, especially a franchise, should plan for this kind of situation and have enough water tanks for a reserve. Homes in Brunei have water reservoirs for such disruptions, so I don't see why a decent hotel shouldn't. We checked out on February 1, 2026, and there was still no water. The lack of facilities made an already difficult time stressful and our holiday traumatic. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The gym, pool, and other water facilities are on the top floor, and we found them clean and comfortable. The hotel has only recently opened and is in a handy spot, near Gadong night market and Jame Asr Hassanil Bolkiah mosque. There are restaurants and a cafe on the first floor, which made eating there convenient. The staff were friendly and explained that the yellow-colored water in the toilet, faucet, and shower is normal in Brunei and doesn't cause health effects.

The location is a little outside the city centre. There are a few restaurants nearby, and the huge Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque is right across the street, though there isn't much else within walking distance. The hotel itself is very modern, with comfortable rooms and a large smart TV. Breakfast is served as a buffet in the basement.

Getting around was easy from this convenient location, and the hotel was clean, comfortable, and well kept. I spent a lovely week at J Hotel in Brunei. The staff were warm and welcoming, always ready to help, and their hospitality made me feel at home. Thanks to the team for making the stay so good. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Brunei.

The pool is on the small side, but the hotel is still a pleasant place to stay. Room quality is great and my stays have always been comfortable. Prices are more affordable, too. A nice option for tourists or a staycation.
