Poni Homestay

Muara itself felt a little quiet, with not much to do beyond the homestay’s dive facility. The stay, though, felt very homely, and Yani was a big part of that. She was friendly and helped with breakfast, taxis, and all the information I needed. The house has a full kitchen, laundry, toiletries, and bicycles for getting around. A supermarket and a couple of places to eat are only a few minutes away, while Muara Beach, Serasa Beach, and Tanjung Batu are about 2.5-3 km away. Tanjung Batu is a lovely spot for sunsets. The neighbors’ dogs were friendly, and there were four playful cats at the property, including one with three new kittens. Nothing was wrong with the room, facilities, or host. I stayed in May 2024.

We ended up staying nearly a week and extended twice, which says a lot about how comfortable it felt. The free breakfast had four or five choices each day, and there was free water, tea, coffee, laundry, and even a ride to an hour of free kayaking nearby. The place is quiet, with a big supermarket close by, and you can hike in the rainforest behind the homestay. Our room was clean and had plenty of facilities. Janny was so kind that it really felt like a second home. There were three lovely cats and four sweet kittens too. We enjoyed it so much and would happily give it 10/10. The shared bathroom could have been cleaner, though shared spaces can be like that.

I was sick for most of the trip, and Sasha kindly made us porridge and honey lemon even though those weren't on the breakfast menu. That was a really thoughtful gesture. We spent five nights in a clean, comfortable room, and the shared bathroom and toilet were kept clean throughout. Having a washing machine available was also a real help. The staff's hospitality left a great impression. We also had a fantastic time wreck diving with Poni Diving, whose experienced, knowledgeable instructors guided us, with transport to and from the dive school provided each time. Thanks for showing us Brunei. We'll be back.

Yanni was the real highlight for us. She managed the homestay with so much helpfulness and care, and did everything she could to make our stay pleasant. The rooms were nice, and the location near the port was convenient. There’s also a small restaurant just across the street. We’ll pick PONI Homestay again next time we're in town.
