Hotel Museo Cayara

The private museum tour was fascinating. Our room was huge, with the shower and toilet in separate spaces. We spent one night there and had drinks by the log fire. Service was impeccable at dinner and again for our evening drinks.

The museum was interesting, and the grounds are well groomed with working agriculture. Our room heater worked adequately, and the ranch property has sizable rooms and hot water showers. But the beds are hard as a rock, and dust is a major issue, with rooms apparently never dusted. There was a moldy smell, like an ancient library, and the shower didn't seem to be disinfected between stays. Menu options were poor. The beef skewers were good, though not great, and the vegetarian lasagna wasn't fit to feed to the pigs.

The local people were so kind, and the area is absolutely beautiful. We stayed three nights, and I only wish we'd had longer. It was definitely a splurge for us, though. Some meals were better than others.

What a great find. If you're passing through Potosí, don't miss it. Hotel museo Cayara is a hidden jewel, with a great location and good opportunities for excursions with the local staff. Want a relaxing stay in a 15th century mansion? This is the place. I'd definitely recommend it and come back.
