The owner was attentive and spoke English, and the price felt very fair: 90 BOB for a double room with a private bathroom and breakfast. The rooms are plain but clean. There's a large shared room with a bar, plus a kitchen guests can use, though the kitchen cleanliness was pretty questionable.

The staff were friendly and did try to help, but the room was only just okay. At night it got freezing cold. The shower swung between scalding and icy, and with no curtain it soaked the whole bathroom. The toilet seat wasn't fixed to the toilet, either. Breakfast was a joke, just very dry bread with butter and jam.

The murals make the simple rooms nice, and breakfast was good, sometimes there was even cake. The hot shower wasn't working at first, but they fixed it quickly. Copacabana is small, so being off the main tourist street really isn't a problem.

The breakfast buffet had simple choices, and the food they served outside breakfast was amazing. Service was good whenever we needed something. The biggest concerns were safety and maintenance: the shower was clogged and backing up, and the electrical work seemed dangerous. The ground wire had been cut, there was melted tape around a live connection, and wires by the bedside outlet were severed. I’d want those hazards fixed before rating the hostel five stars. The hot water was brown, too, which seemed pretty questionable.

The views are amazing, and the hostel is beautiful. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and breakfast was included. I found the beds softer than I like and a bit uncomfortable, but that makes sense for the price. I'd stay again.
