Inca Utama Hotel

Probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Absolutely dire.

There are several small museums in the same complex, and they're well worth a visit. It's also a good base for trekking and mountaineering trips or expeditions into Cordillera Real. The restaurant is quite good, though breakfast feels more like something from a 2-star hotel. They sell this as 5-star, but it barely reaches 3, and the service needs a lot of improvement. Still, it's the best hotel on the eastern shores of Titicaca lake.

The trout was delicious, and we didn't mind getting the same menu every night. The staff were friendly, and there was some good birding around the grounds, including Titicaca Grebe at the end of the dock. It's a nice hotel on the shores of lake Titicaca. They claim to have the world's highest elevator, and we were glad it was there because our room was on the 4th level.

The fish is delicious, and they serve warm, crispy "marraqueta" (bread), though there are other food options too. There’s also a star observatory and museums where you can learn about Bolivia's history and the civilizations that lived near the lake. It's less than two hours to reach this hotel and restaurant right beside Titicaca lake, and I've always had wonderful times there. The service is very good, and they follow good biosecurity protocols. You can come for a day to enjoy the food or stay at the hotel. Sometimes they offer tours to Copacabana and the Sun and Moon islands on their fast, safe boats. Check with them, since I'm not sure those tours are available now because of the pandemic.
