Express Hotel

The staff treated us very badly. At check-in they said we could come ten minutes before breakfast started because we had to leave early, but when we arrived they sent us away and took the food from our hands. The next day, they said we had to pay for storage, even though they'd told us guests didn't need to.

For the price, it's really cheap, and it's the cleanest hostel or hotel I've stayed in so far. The service was good too.

We kept coming back to the Express Inn during our time in La Paz, and each stay was lovely. The location, right by the witches market, made it easy to get around the city. Breakfast had lots of tasty options, and they could get our laundry done in a day. The staff were friendly and helpful at reception, and the rooms were kept neat, with the beds fixed up while we were out. Showers were hot. Highly recommended!

The bed was a real problem, creaky and caved in, and probably due for a new mattress. Most of the bathrooms were clean, though on our first night a guest peed on the toilet lid and it still hadn't been cleaned properly a day and a half later. There were plenty of other bathrooms, thankfully. The hotel was right beside the witches' market, the bedroom was clean, the staff were friendly, and breakfast was decent. It was self-service, so you could have as much as you wanted. Paying in Bolivianos cost more than the exchange rate, before the extra 3 or 5 percent card fee, I can't remember which. I know US dollars are in high demand in Bolivia right now, and other hostels and hotels give a 10% discount for cash dollars. Even that is still a worse deal than the hotel gets exchanging those dollars, though. It feels dishonest to raise the price in the local currency to try to get tourists to pay in dollars.
