There are lots of restaurants nearby, plus a decent cafe and restaurant inside the hostel. The Witches Market and El Prado teleferico station are about a 20-minute walk away, with a supermarket a couple of blocks away and a mall roughly 20-30 minutes on foot. Staff were friendly and went out of their way to share information about tour operators for the Salar de Uyuni. Altitude tours was awesome, by the way. The rooms are compact, but that’s what you expect at a hostel. They were clean, and every bed had a privacy curtain. The beds squeaked a bit, which could bother light sleepers, and not all had an outlet for charging devices. There was hot water in the bathroom, but it took a few minutes of running the tap.

The staff are great and can help arrange tours. I recommend the company they use for Death Road mountain biking, they were excellent. There’s a lovely cafe downstairs with good coffee, and locals also come in later in the day. It’s relaxed and attracts pleasant guests, though it doesn’t guarantee you’ll meet people since it feels more like a place to rest. Private rooms have comfortable beds. The six-bed dorms are a bit cramped, but the lockers fit my 30l backpack and there are hangers for jackets. Showers are hot with good pressure. It’s a walk to the Witches Market area, which I didn’t mind since it’s a tourist trap anyway. There are plenty of good places to eat and a few bars just down the road. I’d stay again.

Hotel Marti took over from Selina, which had a nice mix of atmosphere and quiet rooms. Marti has lost that good vibe. There’s a Typica, but after it closes the hotel feels bleak, without the pleasant atmosphere it used to have. I used the kitchen once. It was dirty and didn’t have much charm. The place has potential, and I hope the owners listen to this feedback and make improvements.

The staff made the stay special. They were incredibly kind, attentive, and caring, checked on us when we were ill, and even surprised us with breakfast and cake for our honeymoon. The cafe downstairs was a gem, with food we loved enough to eat there every day. Our room was spacious and spotless, and the hot shower had strong pressure. Hotel Marti went well beyond what we expected and was one of the best hostels we’ve stayed in. Such a lovely stay in La Paz, thank you!

Sopocachi is a lovely, safe, central neighborhood, with bars, restaurants, and coffee shops within walking distance. My Spanish school was basically next door, which was one reason I picked this place. I stayed for two weeks, and when I’m back in La Paz, this is somewhere I can call home. This place used to be Selina’s. Unfortunately, Selina’s didn’t pay their debt with Booking, so it’s only available direct or through Agoda/ Tripadvisor. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated. There’s a huge coworking space with a big TV and small kitchen on the second floor, and I think there’s a larger kitchen on the seventh floor if you want to cook. Staff were all amazing and helpful. Alejandro and Paola especially went above and beyond, helped with everything, and made me feel at home. After two weeks, I’d say we’re friends. Muchas gracias amigos! They can store luggage if you’re going elsewhere for a few days. A Typica branch opened during my stay. Martin, who needed up 3rd with the national competition, works there and makes incredible coffee. Ask him to surprise you with one of his creations. I tried a rabbit for the first time!
