Mitru Express

The staff were friendly and courteous, and our room was spacious and clean, with comfortable beds, a great view, a fridge, and a huge bathtub. We really enjoyed staying at Mitru Express hotel and would come back. There weren't many restaurants nearby, but we found a great coffee place.

The location made evening walks difficult. It's about a 15-minute walk from the tourist center, but the streets get very empty at night, so going out or walking back feels unsafe or unpleasant. Airport transfers also cost quite a bit more than a regular taxi. The hotel itself met our expectations: staff were helpful and polite, doing their best to assist, and the room was generally clean. The shower could use work, since the water swung between too hot and too cold. At times it also looked muddy. Staff said it was an issue with the city's water supply and should clear up soon, but it's frustrating when you're trying to relax. The restaurant food was quite good for fair prices. Breakfast had plenty of options and was well served, though it didn't vary much day to day.

I arrived between 10:30 and 11:00 PM after a long trip, checked in, and went straight to my room. At 1:45 AM, I still had no hot water. I reported it to reception and was told to wait while they looked into it. After 20-30 minutes, they called and promised it would be fixed in half an hour. I waited over an hour, but there was still no hot water. When I went back to the desk, the staff member finally admitted they didn't know whether it would be fixed that night. Nobody had called to say it was still unresolved, so I was left exhausted, waiting on a promise that wasn't kept. Other reviews make this seem like a recurring issue. I can't say for sure, but it feels like the hotel may be misleading guests about it. A hot shower is a basic need, and this hotel couldn't provide one. I'd advise going somewhere else.

Nice staff, professional too. The rooms are a little old, but they do the job for a couple of days in La Paz. There's a good rooftop restaurant where breakfast is very good and dinner is enjoyable.
