Hotel Gloria La Paz

We liked staying here. Our room was comfortable, there was secure parking for our motorcycles, and breakfast with a view was good. The eggs need work, though. Service could have been better. Food we had delivered came without cutlery, and the front desk said they couldn't get us a fork and knife because there was an event upstairs. I went up in the elevator, found nobody in the breakfast room, and got cutlery myself. It seemed like too much effort for the staff.

The room was $55 and surprisingly spacious for that price. Mine even had two bathrooms, which I liked, and the view was okay. The facilities are old, but I can't complain at this price. The man at reception was very kind. If you're after a luxury hotel with top quality, this may not be the place. For a budget hotel, though, you get more than you'd expect for your money.

The staff were super friendly, but the hotel felt dated and didn't live up to what we'd expected after a recommendation. There's an old-carpet smell, and although it's in a central area, it didn't seem safe at night with lots of drunk people around. Rooms are small. Hot water and water pressure were both slow, and the faucet leaked. Breakfast was average.

The room was heated, even with a heating element in the floor, though it could get too hot at times. Staff were friendly, housekeeping was first rate, and breakfast was decent but nothing special. The location is central. But Hotel Gloria in La Paz needs to do better. I've stayed in a lot of 3-star hotels across four countries in the past six weeks, and budget travelers may not expect luxury, but hot water and cleanliness are basic. Hot water was completely unavailable day and night, not even lukewarm, so expect cold showers. There were no window screens, the electrical outlets were stripped out, and there was no air conditioning. Most of the enamel was gone from the bathtub, the walls had huge cracks, and there was no fire detector in the room. Is that even legal? Wi-Fi dropped out often and only got about 6 mbps when it worked. Street noise was so bad it was hard to sleep, especially with a window open for air. The sheets were rough and starchy, with a strong bleach smell. I'm shocked by how many hotels fail to provide hot water. I'd look elsewhere in La Paz.
