Hotel Madrid

The location worked really well for us, one block above Plaza Murillo and easy to reach from the tourist area while still being a little removed from it. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms have been updated and are a decent size, simple and clean, with comfortable beds. Bathrooms are okay but small. Hot water was available at first, then only lukewarm the next day. Public spaces are less presentable, and breakfast is adequate. In the rooms, heating comes from small fan heaters. A good simple, economical place to stay.

We had a great view from the room, and there were plenty of blankets plus a heater. The beds were comfortable and the shower had hot water. Getting back to the hotel means walking uphill since it sits partway up a hill, and none of the staff speak English. Loud bars are downstairs. Our room on the fifth floor stayed quiet, but it was impossible to hear the receptionist over the noise. The bathroom was very cold and had no window.

The room was nice, the location near the main square was handy, and the woman at reception was kind. The room Wi-Fi was awful, though, and couldn’t even load a basic web page. Breakfast was terrible, the worst I’ve had in more than two months of travelling.

Room 408 was great, with comfortable beds and very clean linens. The views were beautiful, the location excellent, and a huge breakfast was included. We booked two rooms for our family of two, but each room only had two beds. Room 407 smelled of sewage, and room 402 was beside a nightclub that played music until 4am, so keep that in mind. The rooms are pretty expensive for Bolivia, but the stay was okay overall.
