Muzungu Hostel

The stay was brutal. At 7 a.m., a German DJ across the hall blasted music with his door open, and later with it closed. A Brazilian guy didn’t want to talk on the phone in his room, the rooftop bar, or the lobby, so he chose the spot right outside our door. Most of the staff were really bad, apart from one great guy at the front desk. The manager seemed to hate his job that day. Ask him for something and you’d get a “yeah, maybe.” Some sites say there’s an airport shuttle, so we booked one and confirmed it before bed. The next day, I checked again and was told it was on time, but that our airport was farther away and the usual 60 BOB basic shuttle only covered the nearer one, so we’d owe another 20 BOB. I thought that was fair since they’d helped us find the other airport. But “airport shuttle” turned out to mean they’d call us a cab. We asked three people about it, and you’d think at least one would have been honest that it wasn’t included.

You pay for a room to get some rest, but there’s a disco downstairs and the music makes it impossible to sleep before 2 a.m. The staff don’t warn you about it, maybe just to make money. It could be a good place otherwise.

Cheap, well located, and the staff are friendly. But it’s basic, the showers are rubbish, and it’s so noisy that don’t expect much sleep.

Simple rooms and a nice view. It’s fine.
