Skyline Hotel

The free breakfast was really good, and the bathrooms were clean with a hot shower. The location may be the best in town. Staff spoke good English and were much better than most staff I encountered in La Paz. The room walls are a little thin, but I had earplugs, so it wasn't a problem.

The beds were comfortable, and being right in the witches market puts the hostel in a fantastic location. They also let you store your bags after checkout. I was on the fifth floor, where thin curtains let the city lights brighten the room at night. There was also a partial glass wall facing the neighboring accommodation, so light came in from that room too. Across the street is some kind of marching band practice center, and they perform for two hours every day. The shower was warm but had very little pressure. WiFi worked brilliantly at reception, but seemed to rely on one extender after another, and by the fifth floor I could barely load a webpage. Breakfast was okay, with cereal, bread, and tea, but the coffee was dreadful.

We left without staying because the receptionist insisted we pay 410 bolivianos for a room we'd booked at $40, which is 276 bolivianos. We explained that, but she said the exchange rate had risen to $1 = 10 bolivianos. That's completely wrong, and she wouldn't listen even when we showed her the bank's exchange rate online. It seemed like an obvious attempt to scam us, so we went elsewhere. Hotels aren't legally allowed to make up their own exchange rates. About the hotel's reply: please correct it, because it's inaccurate. We never even discussed the room during our short time at reception, and we had booked a private bathroom. The only reason for the higher price was the outrageous made-up exchange rate. Why would a private bathroom nearly double the price anyway? I don't think lying in your own reviews will do much for your hotel.

The staff were friendly, and the hostel is in a really good spot. That's about where the good points end. Our private room had enough space for two, but the corridor smelled like sewage. The bathroom was the worst I've had in a hostel. It was a decent size, but the shower area was inexplicably tiny, about 60 x 60 cm. Showering meant hitting the walls, and even reaching my feet was uncomfortable. I'm 1.80 m tall, not a giant, and I was taller than the shower. It was the most uncomfortable shower I've had while travelling.
