We planned to stay for five days, but kept extending because it was so peaceful and beautiful, and we felt right at home. Bert and his wife are genuinely lovely and provide excellent service, including a tasty breakfast made with local and homemade products. The garden is a little paradise, with the best views of Samaipata and the mountains. I spent time relaxing in a hammock, reading, stargazing and trying beers from their great selection. Little kitten Sushi and the other cats were a lovely bonus and melted my heart. Already missing this place and the lovely family!

We stayed for a week and recommend it! Even arriving by bus in the middle of the night was easy enough, since Bert gave us clear directions to walk safely to the hostel. It’s in a beautiful spot with a lush garden, and we didn’t mind the 15-minute walk to town, it kept us moving. Our private room was lovely and in very good condition. There’s plenty to do in Samaipata, but we also enjoyed hanging around the hostel. It felt like a big living room, peaceful and cozy with the cats and dog around. It wasn’t busy when we were there, but we had some nice moments with Bert. He was approachable whenever we needed him, very helpful, and a lovely person. Breakfast was great, with fruit, bread, egg, pancakes, plus homemade honey and peanut butter. They even made the pancakes gluten-free for me.

The evenings on the porch, looking out over Samaipata as the sun went down, were hard to beat. We meant to stay four days at this lovely hostel and somehow ended up there for more than two weeks. Bert and his family made us feel so welcome; we shared beers, watched football, joked around and got quite close. The hostel is beautifully built, and Bert’s animals added to the fun. Sushi, the little kitten, won us over, while Laika often followed us into town and joined our hikes. Samaipata turned out to have far more going on than we first expected: great hikes, art workshops, local friends and other travellers to chat and have a drink or three with. Bert made our time there really memorable, and we can't wait to return. Thanks for such a great stay, and I hope Bolivia qualifies for the World Cup!

The garden was lovely, and the breakfast was both tasty and generous. I spent three nights at Serena and had a wonderful time. Bert, the owner, made sure I felt at home. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms clean, and the shower had hot water with good pressure. It’s a relaxing place to unwind, with plenty to do in Samaipata and nearby. I’d definitely recommend it and stay again.

Bert was such a helpful, friendly host, and his gorgeous dog made us feel welcome too. The breakfast was fantastic, and the rooms, shared areas and gardens all felt lovely and homey, with beautiful views. It attracts great people. Best hostel we’ve stayed in. Thank you so much! ❤️
