The food was a real highlight. We had several lovely dinners with beer and wine, and breakfast was generous and delicious. The gardens are beautiful too, full of local birds and plants, including fruits and vegetables used in the restaurant. I can imagine they take a lot of work to maintain. The owners and manager were extremely welcoming and friendly. They spoke English, but were kind enough to put up with our version of Spanish, and we had some interesting conversations. It's a peaceful, relaxing spot just outside town. You can walk there from Sorata plaza by a few different paths, including a downhill route across the river, or follow the road. A taxi from town costs 30-40Bs. When the transport strikes and social unrest began in May 2026, the owner kindly helped arrange a taxi out of town. If you end up stuck in Sorata, this is a lovely place to be.

The garden and pool are beautiful, but the rooms felt expensive for what you get, especially since the price is per person. Camping was good, though the toilets and shower badly need a thorough clean. Bring your own food: the restaurant only opens on weekdays, and there is a BBQ. Bring charcoal too, or you'll have to buy a huge bag for 45BS when you only use about a third. Honestly, it looked better in the reviews.

I spent a few days here and really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. It's a lovely place to slow down, and I'd happily come back. It's a bit far from the main square, so a taxi or mototaxi is the easiest way to get around.

My time in Sorata was one of the best parts of my trip to Bolivia, and Simon made it even better. He was an incredible host, and I loved the location, accommodations, and food at Altai Oasis. I'm grateful for the memories and would absolutely visit again. Thank you, Simon.

I loved the kind, friendly people and the customer service was the best. The bedrooms were cozy, clean, and nice, and the restaurant was amazing. The views and nature are out of this place. It was a wonderful stay in Sorata, pretty close from La Paz Bolivia, and I over recommended it!
