Hostal Los Salares

The rooftop views were great, and we loved our room. The owners were so friendly, lovely, and helpful. It's a beautiful hostal in Tupiza, and they can arrange tours. We did the 5 hour horse trek, which was stunning. Highly recommend ❤️

We booked directly over WhatsApp, using the contact on their website, in Spanish. It was cheaper than booking through Hostelworld. We spent three lovely nights here while passing through Tupiza on our way to Argentina, and the owners were friendly. Our second-floor room was spacious, with a good view of the mountains on the western side of the city (see attached photo). The hot shower worked well. Wifi was fine for basic use in the room, though the signal was better in the common area. The shared kitchen is small, and guests can use it. Just be aware that cooking with onions or garlic and deep-frying aren't allowed, to keep smells from spreading through the building. Breakfast wasn't included in our rate, but we could order it for an extra cost. We tried it one morning: 15 BOB for bread and 1 egg, plus coffee or tea and milk. The portions felt quite small, so buying our own food and making breakfast would have been better. Laundry is available for 15 BOB per kilo. The location was decent. It was about a 5 min walk from the bus terminal, across the river and a busy road. The city centre took around 10-15 mins on foot, depending on where we were going.

We'd accidentally left something behind, and the hosts went out of their way to find it and send it on to the next town we'd reached. During the stay they were always available for questions, too. The service was incredible, and we had a nice stay. We'd originally booked another hostel, but nobody was there when we arrived. We contacted this one at 00:30 and got an immediate response and help. Thank you so much! 10/10 :)

The mountain views across the river are amazing, and the hostal itself is up in the mountains. It's about a 10 minute walk to the bus station and city center. They arrange horse rides for a better price than any of the nearby tour companies. The staff are super friendly, and they really care about your stay and go the extra mile. The place is clean, has a great vibe, and there's a chilled out dog who's always happy to see you. One of the best places in all of South America. Beautiful spot, don't miss out!
