Casa de Maria

The room was clean, comfortable and well equipped, and the house itself had a lovely cosy feel. It belongs to Tania, who made us feel like friends as well as guests. We still keep in touch, even though it's been over a month and I'm further along in my travels. Our stay left me with so many fond memories, and leaving was emotional. The night before we left, she cooked us a meal after asking what we wanted. It can't have cost much more than the food itself. She was endlessly helpful, even with our need to find food at all hours, especially at night, and the breakfast was very nice. Despite the language barrier, she always tried to talk with us and help us understand. On our first day, she showed us around Frade. Before we arrived, she had told us where to get off the bus and even waited at the stop. We hadn't realised where we were until she came over calling my name. She helped my friend with her bags and showed us around the property, which is also her home. It's just a short walk from the stop. We were there for a few days before Rio carnival and had worried about finding the accommodation in the smaller town of Frade. Local buses are cheap, and Mambucamba and Angra are nearby on either side. We had a great time in her beautiful home and made a friend. Thank you, Tania, for making our time there special!
