Pousada Recanto dos Pássaros

Everything felt old and thrown together, like someone had collected things from the trash and put them in a makeshift room. The mattresses were old and filthy. This isn’t really a pousada, and I’d strongly advise people not to stay here.

We came in May 2025 and arrived before check-in. The attendant let us leave our bags in a corner of the room leading to the bedrooms and change in the staff bathroom. It wasn’t clean and smelled strongly of urine, which made me worry about the rest of the place. Our first room was unpleasant. The door wouldn’t close and had gaps, so cigarette smoke came in from the neighboring room even though smoking wasn’t allowed. The bathroom was basically part of the bedroom, with a concrete wall and glass enclosure that gave no privacy. The bed was two mattresses pushed together, and one had a huge hole, making the first night awful. The room hadn’t been cleaned: the mirrors had foam marks, the shower enclosure was moldy, the walls were dirty, the shower was clogged, and there was water damage. I contacted the owner to complain, and he moved us to the family room, which was much better. One side of the mattress there was quite worn and had a small hole, but at least we could sleep. The shower control was broken, though we could fit it back on and turn the water on. I loved the breakfast. The women working there were very sweet and friendly, the tapioca cake with condensed milk was lovely, and the eggs were made to order. Simple, but good. The ramp to the pool and breakfast area is steep, and the approach to the pousada is steep too. It’s a somewhat tiring walk from the center, but you get used to it. The first impression was bad, though talking to the owner and getting some things sorted out made the experience much better.

We arrived a day before our reservation started, but they promptly adjusted things and accommodated all 11 of us that same day. My family and I were treated wonderfully, and we’re very satisfied. We had several unexpected issues, and only their help made it possible to sort them out. I’m very grateful for their attention, kindness, and good manners. The service was wonderful. The facilities and rooms do need some adjustments and changes.

The rooms and beds are very nice, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The place is at the end of the street, though, and breakfast was meager. It needs more investment.
