We only went to the restaurant. Francisco looked after us really well, and he’s a very friendly Portuguese man. It’s a simple place, with tasty food and a warm, family-style service. Francisco was serving while his wife cooked everything from scratch, and it was VERY delicious. The prices seemed very reasonable. I definitely recommend it!

The inn is a long way from the busier spots in Barra de Cunhaú, though the rooms are basic but quite adequate for what they charge. Service was the problem. There was no minibar in the suites, and the owner wouldn’t keep a small sealed container from a guest in the restaurant fridge. Early one evening, he also refused to make a cheese sandwich to sell us, even though the inn is far from the local bars. The PVC ceiling creaked all night and kept us awake, but he wouldn’t move us to another empty room. He kept citing extra costs and looked annoyed. We’d planned to stay two or three days, but left after one night.

Barra do Cunhaù is beautiful, with that real northeastern character, but the inn’s rooms leave a lot to be desired. The window air conditioner was very noisy, and no water came out of the shower.
