In a quiet part of bento Velho, with a short drive to the city center and some of the area’s best vinicolas. The building feels solid. I got to stay in Suíte Rocca, a very comfortable suite built around a huge rock. Breakfast came to the room in a nicely arranged basket.

A lovely pousada in Vale dos Vinhedos, looking out over the vines. The rooms and chalets are beautiful, with fireplaces and terraces, and it’s easy to settle in with a local bottle of red wine or spumante. Breakfast is typical, delicious and plentiful, with a view that’s hard to beat.
