Caminho Das Nuvens

We stayed in the Lago cabin, in a particularly lovely spot with a huge view over the mountains and the whole valley. It was cozy and comfortable, too. The place is beautifully cared for, and the service was excellent. What a fantastic, enchanting place. The name really fits. It feels like you’re much closer to the clouds, stars, and even the moon. We were lucky to be there on a full-moon night, and seeing it from there was indescribable. We’d definitely come back.

The owners’ welcome was so warm and attentive, and that really made a difference. The setting is lovely, with one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever had the privilege of seeing. Service was quick and efficient, too. We’ll keep coming back!

The setting is genuinely beautiful, with a lovely view, but the drive up is difficult. The road is in poor shape and full of potholes. The restaurant was closed for its collective vacation during our stay, so we ordered meals to the accommodation. Two of the three dishes we requested weren’t available, which was frustrating. Breakfast was disappointing for both variety and quality, and the wine list seemed out of date. They could give more attention to the wines from the region. For the price, I think the place should pay more attention to the details and the guest experience. That would raise the standard of both the service and the stay.

The view and surroundings are beautiful, but the Chalé Penhasco didn’t live up to its promise for R$ 1,100 per night. The rooms felt cramped and poorly planned, the cleaning was below par, and there was even hair in the coffee. We had a leak and exposed wiring. The TV only worked in parts after a lot of frustration. Smoke came back through the fireplace, so it could only be used with the door closed. The amenities were poor: the bathtub “foam” was diluted soap, there were no slippers or hair dryer, and the pillows were bad. The kitchen had almost nothing beyond coffee, sugar, and salt. Breakfast was sparse, with little variety and portions counted out. At night, the only option was their own expensive menu. My overall rating is 3/10, with very poor value for money. During our stay, at least in the Chalé Penhasco, the operation seemed to put profit well ahead of the guest experience, which showed in the measured portions and cheap supplies. This isn’t a high-end stay like it claims to be. The advertising gets a 10, the actual experience gets a 3. I don’t recommend it in its current state.
