Taua Hotel & Convention Caete

I really enjoyed my time at the resort while working at a chain laboratories convention for two days. The restaurant had plenty of food options, including many for vegetarians, and the recreation area was great, with heated and outdoor pools, courts, and a very well trained staff. Everyone was ready to help. The one drawback was the parking, which isn’t covered.

There’s lots for kids to do, and the pool area is nice. The food is good too. But the standard room is really small, and we saw a cockroach on our first night. Drinks aren’t included in the all inclusive package, which we didn’t like. You have to climb a hill whenever you want to get to the pool, restaurant, or anywhere else in the hotel. At seven months pregnant, I didn’t find that very comfortable.

The kids had a lot to do, including soap soccer, and adults could join silly poolside contests or volleyball. The entertainers were especially friendly, the pools stayed warm, and the big bucket for kids was a hit. The food was delicious. There were quite a few room problems: the air conditioner dripped onto the floor and made a lot of noise, the shower was partly clogged and caused flooding, the toilet paper holder was loose, the seat was broken, and the shower door didn’t close all the way, so water got into the rest of the bathroom. We also found a cockroach in the bedroom, plus ants and mosquitoes. The room finishing wasn’t very good. Drinks, even water, weren’t included, which really dragged down the experience. There was a hole in the volleyball court that could easily cause an accident. The monitors knew about it, but it didn’t seem like anything was being done. Internet was unstable, and the lights went out around six times in two days. At reception we were told we could have gotten 20% off the reservation if we’d mentioned my daughter’s birthday. I asked whether the discount could be applied then or given next time, but they refused.

There are some entertainment options, including a heated pool, bowling, and a cinema room, and the hotel and service are nice. Just keep the location in mind if you’re hoping to visit historical places during your stay. It’s far from everything, and getting to Mariana can take up to three hours.
