Hotel Britania

Just okay.

The room problems made this the worst experience of my life. My girlfriend and I came to Campos hoping for a nice, enjoyable stay, but that went downhill as soon as we checked into Hotel britânia. The photos show the best rooms and parts of the property, while the hotel is actually undergoing renovations and our room was awful. The shower enclosure door wouldn't close all the way, so water spread across the bathroom. There was mold on the walls and ceiling, cobwebs around the room, and the bathroom window wouldn't shut completely, letting a lot of cold air in. The bathroom door wouldn't close either. It was headache after headache, and we felt like leaving. I don't usually complain or post things publicly, but I hope this warns other people considering a stay here. We asked for a refund or a different room, but got neither. The rooms were full, and the hotel's policy was not to refund us. The receptionist was very attentive, but sadly couldn't help us at all.

The one thing that worked well was the location: you can walk to the center of Capivari. I stayed here with my husband four years ago, when it was a simple but good hotel that suited the price, so I brought my family back this weekend. I ended up embarrassed and wouldn't recommend it. The management has changed and it's now called pousada estrela de campos. The website described a restaurant and pizzeria, but there isn't a restaurant, and at night they close the kitchen to make pizzas. Our room had no minibar, even though the photos shown when booking suggested there was one. The mattress dipped in the middle, the Wi-Fi didn't work, and the shower had very little water pressure. We said we didn't need the room cleaned, but asked for fresh towels and toilet paper. Neither was provided while we were out, and when we asked again, the receptionist was extremely rude, saying we should have asked an hour earlier. My husband reminded her that he'd asked that morning when he left the key. Breakfast was basic, just bread with butter and a few little cakes, and there weren't even napkins. Dogs were walking around the kitchen, and the old building needs repairs. A simple hotel is fine, but the basics should work, the website and photos should match what's offered, and guests should be treated respectfully. With the new management, I won't be back. They have a lot to improve before they deliver even the basics.

The location was great, and we could walk to the center. Staff were really friendly, and breakfast was moderately good. Our room was clean when we arrived, and we were helped right away. A couple of things could be better: they don't clean the accommodation daily, and you have to ask reception if you need something like soap or toilet paper. During my four-day stay, a spider showed up in the bathroom. My boyfriend killed it, but it's something to keep an eye on.
