The gym was decent for a hotel, and I enjoyed breakfast. The lobby, bar, and restaurant also made a great first impression, with a modern, stylish look. The room was a different story: it smelled strongly of smoke, even the towels. It had no decor at all and felt like a prison cell, lit by a harsh white LED in the ceiling. There wasn't a picture, a bedside lamp, or anything else. The curtains were stained and dirty, with what looked like burn marks. There was only one light switch, by the entrance. At bedtime I had to walk over to turn it off, then use my phone flashlight to find my way back to the bed. In the morning I spotted a cockroach beside the bed. When I told the front desk, the staff member just shrugged and rolled his eyes. I can't believe Gran Odara Cuiabá would deserve more than one star.

Everyone was very friendly, and the rooms were great. The way to the pool felt a bit unsafe and definitely wasn't child friendly. Still, it's the best hotel in the region.
