Sagui Hostel

The location was a real plus, close to the beach and an easy, pleasant walk from shops and restaurants. They also have a converted van you can sleep in, which is a cool idea, and I preferred it to our double room. But I don't understand the hype or the high ratings. We spent two nights in a small, humid, dark room with an old mattress and sheets full of holes. I felt my belongings weren't secure: the door closed, but the windows opened easily. The room was very close to the common area, so we could only sleep around 3 am, when everyone else did. Then construction work around the property woke us at 6:30 am. Only one staff member was friendly to us. Before we arrived, I felt harassed by repeated questions about whether we were coming and paying, and requests for information. When I offered solutions and options, none were followed up on. It's a shame, because the place has a lot of potential, but needs better upkeep, cleaning, and refurbishment.

The hostel has a great location, nice people, and an awesome vibe. The room was okay and the bed comfortable, but it was very crowded. With people always sleeping and no individual lights or curtains, it was hard to get things from my bag. I had to use my own flashlight, and the room was really dark. The ping pong table and sinuca are awesome, very "roots," as we say in Brazil. They're open 24 hours, so you can come back whenever you want.

Sagui Hostel is about a 10 minute walk from Campeche Beach and also about 10 minutes from the town center, where there are plenty of shops and restaurants. I liked the location once I got settled, even though at first the quiet residential area didn't seem right for me. I chose it because I wanted to be near the beach while visiting Florianopolis, Brasil. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and there's a small outdoor bar serving drinks. The place has a laid-back, beach bum vibe. I got a great price for a private room. If peace and relaxation are what you want, this is the place.

The little beach town is beautiful and always has plenty to do. The people here make you feel at home as soon as you arrive.
