Pousada Pepone - Fortaleza Centro

The staff responded quickly and were very helpful with anything I needed. Check-in and checkout were both fast and problem free. The pousada is well placed for walking to the beach, the little shops downtown, and restaurants, though the central area can feel a bit dangerous, especially at night. I’ve stayed at other places downtown and always made sure to stay alert while walking around. My room and bathroom were spacious, and the air conditioning cooled well. There was water, drinks, and candy in the minibar for an extra charge, of course. Breakfast starts at 7 a.m.; there weren’t many choices, but what was available tasted great to me. Towels and soap were provided for personal use. Parking is next door, uncovered, and the gate is secured with a chain and padlock.

The location was the one bright spot. The bathroom leaked, and the bed and pillows were uncomfortable. At 5 in the morning, a woman at reception was making noise. They also sent us to a tour agency run by someone named Carolina. We felt misled: the trip was supposed to visit three beaches, but they turned back halfway and said the route was closed.

We booked a triple room for New Year’s Eve, but it had mold throughout. The bathroom door wouldn’t close, and the electric shower didn’t work. One person’s allergy got bad enough that they ended up in the hospital. The place is downtown, which isn’t ideal if you’re looking for the beach crowds. We canceled the final night and were refunded.
