Pousada Canto Azul

Pretty good.

The pool was clean and really pleasant, and thankfully the room didn’t smell bad. But the room floor was dirty, and the sheets didn’t have that fresh, clean smell. Everything felt basic, including breakfast, where it seemed like the food was being rationed. We had to open the broken gate ourselves, and it was very heavy. The price didn’t feel justified, so I wouldn’t stay there again. The whole place also had a strange, almost abandoned feel.

The pool was the best part, and the reason I gave two stars. The rest of our stay was disappointing. We were put in a room adapted for disabled guests, but the bathroom floor was extremely slippery, the shower stall was cramped, and the toilet was low with only one grab bar. The mattress was very hard, with just a thin layer of foam over what felt like wood. The toilet wouldn’t flush properly and got blocked. We stayed four days, and it remained blocked for three of them. When we asked for help, they said they would only deal with it after we checked out, since they don’t go into the rooms. By then, it was too late to help us. There were no handrails on the pool stairs or by the hot tub, which seemed dangerous for children, older people, and disabled guests. Breakfast was another letdown. They served moldy cake, only put out a few cheese rolls, and once those were gone, that was it. There were few fruit choices, and the same watermelon was served two days in a row, already overripe. Some items took a long time to be replenished. Our group had 12 people, 9 paying guests and 3 children, but there was table space only for the paying guests. We were often short on glasses, cups, and plates. There was nobody to collect room trash. Guests had to carry their own rubbish to the bin, and there weren’t any extra bags. The service was poor.

A total disappointment. The place felt neglected, with a dirty pool, a broken gate and no one around to help open or close it. Our minibar didn’t work, and exposed wiring was visible in the room. Breakfast was very basic, and the famous cheese rolls mentioned on the website were nowhere to be seen.
