Pousada Casa da Regina

The owner was always helpful and offered suggestions for places to visit, and everything that had been agreed at check-in was provided during my stay. I saw some complaints in the comments, but they didn't match my experience. The place is quiet and pleasant, and the beach is walkable, though not very close. Breakfast was wonderful, with a bit of everything: cold cuts, fruit, coffee, milk, breads, and cakes. The room had a clean bathroom, a minibar, and an open-signal TV. It can get a little hot in the heat with just a fan, so I'd recommend getting a room with air conditioning. Great value, and I'll come back whenever I can.

The breakfast was tasty, but there wasn't much choice, the bread seemed reused, and the juice was watered down. The location was awful, very far from the beach and extremely dangerous. The rooms were dirty and smelled bad. The bunk beds were falling apart, with mattresses so thin they felt like pads. The fan was broken, and the curtains and sheets looked as if they hadn't been washed in years. There were only two shared bathrooms for everyone, and they were disgusting, with no ventilation, broken drains, and orange, sewage-smelling water trickling from both the shower and tap. The water would stop when someone else was using it. The toilets were loose and wouldn't flush, the floor was patched, pipes were exposed, and the doors had no locks or privacy. This was a miserable, uncomfortable place with no investment in upkeep. I went there to rest but left early, stressed out by all the hassles. It wasn't cheap enough to justify how bad it was.

We stayed four days, and on two of them we couldn't shower because there was no water in the shared bathroom. The bathroom was tiny, poorly maintained, and had a loose toilet. Our room had no private bathroom, and a hole in the door meant people in the other room could see through. There were two flimsy, unstable bunk beds with no safety rails, so the two couples put the mattresses on the floor to avoid falling. The fan was filthy, very loud, and seemed about to fall, and there was hardly any ventilation. The whole place seemed abandoned and smelled bad everywhere, all the time. It needs much better cleaning and preparation, plus some basic repairs in the rooms.

The bathroom was awful, with poor drainage, no ventilation or hygiene, and barely any water from the shower. The room was ugly, with mold and damp stains all over, though I'd chosen the cheapest option. There wasn't even a wardrobe, and the 14-inch tube TV was no use. Breakfast was stale bread with margarine, who knows how old, and reheated coffee. The place was dirty and disorganized, service was mediocre, and it's far from the beach. Despite the name Regina, the only adult I saw was a man, and I saw him just twice in three days. It was so bad I came home a day early.
