The staff were friendly and helpful, and the place feels tucked away among the trees, about a 10 minute walk from the docks. I had an amazing three night stay. They offer laundry service for a fee, R$60, which came in handy. I'd definitely stay again if I return to Ilha Grande.
The rooms are comfortable enough, but the power kept cutting out, so the AC rarely worked. The toilet also malfunctioned now and then, though maintenance came quickly when we called. Charging was awkward, with just a couple of ports on the floor, far from the beds. The breakfast was nice but quite sweet, with several cakes, fruit, granola, and a sandwich with cheese and meat. They don't sell tours, but you can easily buy packages in town. It's about a ten minute walk from the main town, and the hostel feels like a hidden paradise, full of plants, birds, and cute kitties. I spent a whole day in a hammock watching the birds while a sweet cat slept on my lap. All in all, a beautiful hostel.
Everyone was really friendly and helpful, with great suggestions for trips. A super nice hostel, with cosy private rooms!
The communal areas were great for meeting lots of lovely people, and the clean rooms were great too. We had a great stay in the 8 person room, and later checked out the 6 person room after meeting some friends. Both were really good, and they also have private rooms in little cabins. Breakfast was awesome!! The front desk staff knew the island well and gave us plenty of recommendations, and the owner went above and beyond to sort out our transfer off the island. It's close to everything but still feels like you're in the jungle. I really loved my stay and couldn't recommend Holandes Hostel enough. Come to Ilha Grande and stay here!
The rooms and grounds are clean, and the setting is beautiful, but I can't really recommend the place unless your options are limited. With luggage, getting there is hard because you have to climb a little way up the mountain. The Wi-Fi doesn't reach the rooms, so you'd have to use your phone outside among the mosquitoes. There are cats everywhere, which could be a problem if you have allergies. The rooms get far too cold at night, and you can't adjust the temperature yourself. I couldn't find an attendant when I went looking for someone to change the AC settings. They don't offer any programming or outings.
