Pousada Ouro Verde

Our stay was a real disappointment, and the glowing reviews here didn't match what we found. The rooms were in poor condition: the sheets were only moderately clean, the pillowcases looked used, the blinds were broken, and just one socket worked. Most of all, everything was very damp, and we had to get our entire suitcase washed afterward. We know humidity is part of being on an island, but it wasn't the only factor. Friends who came with us and had stayed here five years earlier were also disappointed by how much the place had deteriorated. I also have mixed feelings about reception. The owner had a big smile, but seemed to focus on some customers and put little effort or friendliness into others. We had booked five non-refundable nights in advance, otherwise we would have left. Too bad.

It's a little off the beaten path, though the main street is just a three-minute walk away. The hosts were also very helpful arranging transfers and activities around the island. A great place to stay in Ilja Grande.

A good choice for a quiet break near the jungle's edge. Less suitable if cats are a problem for you, or if you prefer hosts who talk less.

Lots of nature around, a lovely breakfast, and a very relaxing stay. Really nice!
