Pousada Engenho Velho

My three friends and I stayed at the pousada, and unfortunately the service was a very bad experience. We were coming from Belo Horizonte and expected to arrive around 10 p.m. Since the restaurant closed at 9, we contacted the property ahead of time to ask if dinner could be served in our room. The owner and cook had agreed to this, especially since the pousada is far from town. But when we arrived on Friday, Paulo, who was in charge, told us there had been a problem at 1 p.m. and that there was no food option at all. The pousada is about 10 km from downtown, including roughly 7 km on a dirt road. We were four women, it was late, and we didn't know the area, so we felt unsafe going out to look for food. We went to bed hungry. Early the next day, we went into town to buy drinks and some food. When we got back and were by the pool, Paulo said there would be a R$100.00 charge for bringing in alcoholic drinks, claiming that was a contract rule. We hadn't been given access to that contract. We questioned the charge and pointed out that the pousada hadn't kept its agreement about dinner. His sarcastic reply was, “Have you never had to go to bed hungry?” We found his attitude appalling. We understand that unexpected problems can happen, but guests should still be treated with empathy, politeness, and respect. The issue wasn't only the missing dinner, but especially the mocking, indifferent way it was handled. I hope this feedback leads them to review how they treat guests in delicate situations. It was a very negative stay, and we won't return.

The pool was one of the best parts of our stay, with a beautiful, relaxing setting that's perfect for unwinding. The view and the surroundings are lovely, too, with a real feeling of peace and connection to nature. Breakfast was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The service was impeccable, a 10,000 out of 10! The team was attentive and caring, and they kept checking that guests were doing well. It made us feel truly welcome. This place has so much potential and already offers a really positive experience. A few small adjustments could make it perfect. I'd come back and recommend it to anyone looking for rest, a warm welcome, and a pleasant atmosphere. 🌿✨

The view of the Serra is absolutely beautiful, and the staff are very friendly. The pool and sauna are well cared for, and it seems like a nice setting for kids. The location is a little out of the way, which worked in my favor but might be an issue for other people. Pousada Engenho Velho was a good choice and offers good value if you're looking to enjoy the attractions of Serra do Cipó. The accommodations are somewhat limited: the rooms are close together, and the restaurant has few choices. It might not suit someone planning to spend the whole day at the pousada. But, like me, if you're out visiting waterfalls and other places during the day and just want to rest at night, it's perfectly satisfying and fair for the price.

I really enjoyed it. The breakfast was wonderful and the nature is beautiful. If you like quiet and tranquility, I highly recommend it. I brought my little dogs and they loved it. The pool is covered and heated, and there are also walks and paths to enjoy. I'm already planning to go back for the next holiday!
