Pousada Vó Otília

We stayed at the inn during the Réis festivities, and found it warm and welcoming, with spotless cleaning. Dona Helena, the owner, is a wonderful person. Breakfast had plenty of choices, including tapioca, bread, couscous, juices, and more. There’s a market nearby, and the inn is close to the central market and about a five-minute walk from praça dos romeiros. We’ll definitely stay here again when we return to Juazeiro. See you soon!

Dona Helena, who runs the inn and keeps an eye on things, was always attentive and polite. It’s a small, cozy, family-style place, with only a few rooms and staff. Breakfast was good and still offered plenty of choices even with few guests: bread, cheese, ham, couscous, tapioca, eggs, cheese bread, cake, juice, tea, and coffee. The main drawback for me was how much sound carries. I had the first room, so I could hear everything happening at reception. Since the place wasn’t very busy, it didn’t bother me much, but it did make the room feel less private.

Other inns in the same price range offer better service. Breakfast was awful, and there wasn’t much to choose from to begin with. Dona Helena kept asking the staff to take food away, which looked bad, and the cake was gummy. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned properly either. When I got to my room, the shower stall was stained and the shampoo holders were full of soap left by other guests. The cleaning was poorly done.

The place is very central, and Dona Helena, who is Vó Otília’s daughter, gave us great service. We’d looked around and this was one of the more affordable options, so we expected something simpler or less comfortable. Instead, we were pleasantly surprised: the rooms were very comfortable, the bathrooms were large, and everything was clean and well cared for. Housekeeping came by every day to tidy up as needed. Breakfast included several fresh juices, fruit, bread, cold cuts, eggs, and ground meat. We really liked our stay.
