HI Hostel Chapada

Luciana made breakfast a highlight, preparing everything so well and making the food amazing. Juan was also really helpful with advice and adjusted our stay when we weren’t feeling well after something that happened in Salvador. Everyone on staff was friendly and looked after us throughout. We had an amazing time at the hostel.

The toilets were a real problem: most mornings, about 80% of them weren’t working, though they were repaired later in the day. Our room was beside reception, where the guys were loud at 6 a.m. and didn’t seem to care that people were still asleep. There are cameras all over the hostel, too. Don’t pack breakfast food for later, because they may say they saw you on camera and charge you for it. It feels creepy, although signs around the hostel do say taking food from breakfast is forbidden. There are some good points. The garden is lovely, breakfast is very good, and someone from the hostel picked us up when we arrived early by bus from Salvador. We had paid for early check-in, though. Tours are easy to book there, but they’re very expensive, so ask if they can lower the price. And the woman serving breakfast was super unfriendly, a real witch, sorry to say.

The staff here are the sweetest I’ve come across, and the hostel is very affordable. There’s a large compound and pretty much every amenity a traveler needs. One of the best places to stay in Lencois, highly recommend it.

The locker situation was disgusting. Mine was full of cockroaches, and after staff said they’d clean it, I came back from lunch to find them still there. I tried insecticide myself, which brought a nest of them out from inside. I asked to move rooms, and the night staff were happy to help. The Hostel Chapada was nicely decorated and seemed clean, which made this all the more disappointing.
