Pousada Cavaleiros

Great.

This was a disastrous stay. I called to book Saturday and Sunday, understanding it as one reservation for two nights, and was quoted R$250. I paid that amount before even entering the room. At checkout, they suddenly said the reservation was R$500 and demanded another payment. My wife was feeling unwell, and we didn't even get to have breakfast. I paid only after being threatened that I wouldn't be allowed to leave without paying. I would never have stayed here if I'd known, since several nearby hotels have covered parking, a pool, better breakfast, and even lower prices.

The one good part was the service. The staff were polite and attentive. I had expected something quite different after reading the positive reviews, and honestly, I didn't like it. At R$170 a night, the benefits felt poor for the price, especially for an inn in an upscale neighborhood of Macaé. There isn't enough parking for all the guests. I had to park in front of another guest's car, with their kindness, or else figure out a space on the street. Breakfast was as basic as it gets, with no variety. I've paid less elsewhere for a much more appealing breakfast. The phone between the room and reception didn't work. When I ordered a delivery, reception couldn't let me know because their phone was faulty. I wouldn't come back.

We really liked the pousada. The location is excellent and the view is spectacular. The room furniture was excellent too, and the Wi-Fi worked well most of the time. The welcome felt warm and respectful, like a family-run place. Breakfast included French bread and regular and whole-wheat sliced bread, margarine and butter, five cold-cut choices, papaya, coffee, hot and cold milk, chocolate milk, cashew and grape drinks, and one or two bakery cakes. We stayed three nights and weren't told how room cleaning and tidying worked. Nobody came during our stay. I think it may be because we didn't leave the key at reception, and we didn't mind, partly because of Covid precautions. I just brought our wet towels to reception and got fresh ones without any trouble.
