Casa do Bispo is a cute, affordable hotel in Manaus's lively tourist center. The rooms are comfortable and have AC. Breakfast is served on a lovely patio with coffee, and the chef made me a delicious pancake each morning when I asked. The staff were especially helpful with our group. They stored our luggage and even let us use a shower after our stay before heading to the airport. They also had great recommendations for the area. The downside is the noise in this neighborhood, which isn't something they can control. I stayed Friday and Saturday nights and used earplugs.

The rooms were nice, but the sheets were dirty and stained, with no spare ones available. There was hair on the pillows, and the shower wouldn't regulate, so I ended up with cold showers. The evening staff were no help.

Breakfast and the staff were great, and I liked the modernized rooms and little pool in the lovely courtyard. The boutique hotel looks out over the opera square, though the room at the front made that location a real problem. Noise carried on until early morning. Curtains, shutters, or double glazing might have helped, but the room had none of those. For that reason alone, I wouldn't stay again.

We could walk to Mercado Municipal, Porto de Manaus, the square, the opera house, and all kinds of local or upscale restaurants. At night the area feels lively, with bars playing samba and Brazilian music and people sitting outside. For a first visit to Manaus, we wanted somewhere central and safe to explore on foot, and this hotel suited us really well. The staff were warm and helpful, and it was a pleasant place to relax. The garden, terrace, pool, and air conditioning were all nice to have, and breakfast had local food and drinks each day until 10 a.m. Our room didn't have a mini fridge or TV, but we didn't need either. The bathroom was basic and had what we needed. If you need to do laundry, there's an upscale laundromat a block away with AC, Wi-Fi, TV, and drinks. Allow about 70 minutes for a wash and dry, and ask the staff where it is and how to get the entry code. We'd recommend staying here and hope to return. Obrigada Ricardo and Poani for such a friendly welcome and service!

We got a great view of the National Opera House and plaza from the roof, and there are lots of shops and restaurants with live music on the same block. The hotel itself is fairly new, converted a few years ago from housing for the church next door, and it was a great deal for the price. The staff were kind and went out of their way to help us, even saving our car from being towed. Someone is onsite around the clock. I don't speak Portuguese, but most staff knew some Spanish and English, and they were patient when we used Google Translate. Breakfast was delicious. A great base for seeing Manaus.
